What role you’ll play in the crew

• AT IAC, A MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineer plays a crucial role in the design, installation, and maintenance of building systems.

What the role entails/responsibilities

• System Design: MEP engineers at IAC are responsible for designing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for buildings. This includes HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), electrical power distribution, lighting, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Codes and Standards: Ensure that all designs comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Technical Drawings: MEP engineer would be responsible to create detailed technical drawings and plans using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to communicate design specifications to architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Cost Estimation: Estimating project costs and materials required for MEP systems is a crucial aspect of the job.
• Project Management: MEP engineers may manage projects from concept to completion, overseeing installation, testing, and commissioning of systems.
• Coordination: Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other professionals to ensure that MEP systems are integrated seamlessly into the building’s design.
• Energy Efficiency: Optimizing MEP systems for energy efficiency and sustainability is increasingly important, so engineers may focus on green building practices.
• Quality Control: Ensuring that the installation and performance of MEP systems meet quality and safety standards is a vital responsibility.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance: MEP engineers may be involved in diagnosing and resolving issues with existing systems and providing maintenance guidelines.
• Documentation: Maintaining detailed documentation of all design and installation processes is crucial for record-keeping and future reference.
• Client Interaction: Communicating with clients to understand their specific needs and providing recommendations for MEP system design and upgrades.
• Technological Advancements: Staying updated with the latest technological advancements in MEP systems and incorporating them into designs when applicable.

Research Assistant/ Associate


Job Summary:

India Autism Center (IAC) has a dynamic research team focused on developing a deeper understanding of autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions. Our research initiatives have been supported by organizations like Wellcome Trust, and our research findings have been published in the top journals in the field of autism.

In advancing our vision for autism research, we need a Research Assistant/Associate to join the team. We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill this position. The individual will work closely with the Research Director and Research Coordinator at the India Autism Center and actively contribute to the IAC’s ongoing efforts to conduct studies and contribute to ongoing research projects. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our team dedicated to advancing the understanding of autism and service development for the autism community.

Roles and responsibilities:

Experimental Design and Execution:

  • Contribute to the development of experiments and research protocols in collaboration with the research team.
  • Conduct experiments according to established protocols under the supervision of the Research Director.

Data Management:

  • Collecting, organizing, and storing research data.
  • Perform statistical analysis of research data and assist in the interpretation of the research findings.

Reporting and documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of the research procedures, results, and other relevant information.
  • Contribute to the writing of papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and other relevant media.
  • Prepare and submit research reports for internal and external review.
  • Attend all weekly and monthly update meetings related to the research department.

Equipment and Resource Management:

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of research equipment.

Skill and Qualifications

  • Education:This position is an open-rank position. Candidates with a Masters in a relevant field such as psychology, neuroscience, computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline – will be considered for a Research Assistant position. In exceptional circumstances, candidates with a bachelor’s degree with a high level of performance or/and relevant experience will be considered for this position. Familiarity with statistics will be an advantage. More experienced candidates, such as those with a PhD in a relevant discipline, will be considered for a Research Associate position.

  • Experience/ Domain Knowledge:Previous experience in conducting research is preferred but not essential. Prior experience in working with children and adults with neurodevelopmental conditions will be an advantage.

  • Language Preference:Proficient in speaking and writing in English, Bengali, and Hindi.

Working Conditions:

  • Timing: The normal working days are Monday through Friday.
  • Hours: The normal working hours are from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. However, sometimes out-of-hours work might be required.
  • Place of posting: The position will be in-person based in Kolkata, primarily in the IAC office or Amrit Somani Memorial Centre (ASMC) which is our daycare centre, for conducting experiments. He/she may be required to travel occasionally for data collection in other daycare centres.
  • Tenure: 2 years in the first instance subject to renewal based on performance.
